Harvey Nichols Birmingham Spring/Summer Catwalk Show

If my sneaky peak whetted your appetite, then you're going to love this roundup of the Harvey Nichols Birmingham Spring/Summer Catwalk Show!

Harvey Nicks took the opportunity to showcase some of their favourite pieces for the season, divided into what they saw as the key trends for Spring / Summer 2012. What I found particularly interesting was the overall laid-back, easy feeling to most of the outfits - very much a casual, LA type style to much of the show with slouchy t shirts, loose blouses and dresses, and lots of flat shoes and boots (although there was a fair share of fancy frocks and amazing shoes heels too!) Many people equate 'designer' with unwearable, but I think more and more there is a shift to people wanting to buy absolute staples for their wardrobes when spending this kind of money - the perfect jeans, the take me everywhere handbag.

My overall favourite trend had to be 'La Vie en Rose' which was a collection of delicious looking pinks and reds, just showing that this previously thought to be clashing colour combination is going nowhere.

Here are my picks from the show (click through to read on and see pretty things!)

Beautiful sequin cowel neck detail on Philip Armstrong dress (790)

In love with the oversize bow detail and texture on this By Malene Birger number (£335)

The Evening trouser is back - loose fit in sumptuous fabric from By Malene Birger (£145), gorgeous paired with a By Malene Birger sparkly jacket (£500)

A fab mix of the retro with the futuristic from Philip Armstrong (£920)

This was a dress with a lot of slink! I adored the 1930s style bias cut of the dress from By Malene Birger (£485)

The movement in of this DKNY dress (£355) as the model walked down the catwalk was breathtaking. This piece would look equally at home on the beach or dressed up for a holiday night out

Seriously lusting after this McQ dress (£355), the draping was just beautiful

A laid back look made special by the pops of rose colour (T, Acne, £80, Trousers, Alice and Olivia, £170)
The sculptural detail and cut outs on this Finders Keepers dress (£125) are gorgeous - great for neat body shapes

WANT these Jeffrey Campbell platforms! ( £95)

The dusty pink of this Paul Smith short suit (Jacket, £400, Shorts, £160) combined with the mint green Alexander McQueen scarf (£245) made this my favourite outfit of the show

Tailored yet loose fit shorts By Malene Birger (£145) make this outfit sophisticated yet casual. I would love to wear this strolling through the streets or Rome

I don't think this photo captures quite how beautiful this loose, tunic style blouse from Second Day (£180) was - perfect for skimming over rounder body shapes

I love the 'Hitchcock blonde' 60s look of this Pinko Trench (£495) and Americana vintage scarf (£45)
This Moncler trench (£580) paired with shorts (7 for all Mankind, £155) and a simple vest (T by Alexander Wang, £65) make for a stylish casual outfit
The loose fit of this Acne T (£95) is fabulous paired with a skinny chino (Michael Kors, £130)

Love the sunny colour of this Burberry rain jacket (395) - the shape of this and the stripey dress make it fab for straight bodyshapes

Look at the shoes! AMAZING multi strap studded wedges by Jeffrey Campbell (£150)

Peplums are everywhere this season, and this McQ top means that Harvey Nicks is is no exception (£475)
Outside of a fashion show I wouldn't pair this playsuit by Alice and Olivia (£290) with the tights, but I love it's cheery colours and pattern. A playsuit can be a great practical alternative to a dress in the Summer if you have the legs for it!

I love this Wild Fox jumper (£240) - the gorgeous flower print, and the sheerness which stops it being overwhelming as an oversize top.
